This report has been prepared as part of a project on “Improving the Well-being of Women through a Gender-Sensitive Consumer Protection Strategy”, which is being implemented by Consumer Rights Commission of Pakistan under the umbrella of the Gender Equality Project (GEP), being managed by the British Council, Pakistan. CRCP thankfully acknowledges the support of Department for International Development (DFID) for funding this project.

It presents a situation analysis of the issues and problems, which women face in relation to market and governance. It has been divided into three chapters. The first chapter is based on key findings of a survey and focus group discussions held in two union councils of Rawalpindi district, which explored the areas of concern. The second chapter reviews 19 consumer laws and identifies various opportunities for relief provided in these laws. Gender aspects in these laws have also been highlighted. The last chapter reviews major institutions, which are working on gender development and consumer protection. This report will form the basis for development of the gender-sensitive consumer protection strategy. In addition, the report contains significant information for those who are interested in gender issues and consumer protection.
