Establishment of Capacity at Provincial and National Levels to undertake Legislative Tracking and Oversight Activities.
A series of consultations throughout Pakistan has already been held to introduce the concept of legislative tracking to a range of stakeholders. Their opinions and suggestions went into the drafting of tracking tools that have been developed so far. As soon as new tools are finalized, they are shared with civil society including academia, NGOs and media.
CRCP has also held sessions at some of the country’s major universities to encourage social science faculty and students to conduct research on legislative issues and employ legislative tracking tools in their research. The idea is to institutionalize the process of legislative oversight and make it sustainable over the long term.
In the next quarter (April-June 2005) CRCP plans to conduct intensive workshops on legislative oversights tools. Consultations with legislators are also planned. The aim is to sensitize them to citizens’ needs and perform their duties in areas such as law making, budgetary approval and executive oversight through committee system more effectively.
