Lahore: The consumer protection Bill Punjab (1999) is an important step
of the Punjab government towards consumer protection in the province. Addressing
the seminar on consumer protection concept concerns and proposed legislation
organized by CRCP S.A. Hameed chairman task force on essential items said
that the govt. of Punjab is committed to consumers Protection and in this
regard consumer Protection Bill is a stepping store.
Addressing the seminar, Dr. Faisal
Baig social professor at LUMS highlighted the consumer Protection movement
in the developed countries and stressed on the heed for consume protection
in the country. He added that consumer bodies will have to be made after the
enactment of the consumer Protection Bill.
Dr. Munir Ahmed president Islamic society for statistical sciences pointed
out the significance of consumer Protection and satisfaction. In this regard
he emphasized the need for fixing the prices of consume goods and standardization
of the quality of products.
Mr. Salman Humayun executive Director consumer Rights Commission of Pakistan
(CRCP) threw light on the concept of consumer protection and the recommendations
offered buy CRCP for the consumer Protection Bill for Punjab (1999). Appreciating
the efforts of CRCP for consumer Protection Dr. I.A. Rehman Director Human
Rights Commission of Pakistan said that consumer is an important perspective
for safeguarding the right of human beings. He proposed that Ministers should
not be the members of consumer councils, instead the local bodies need to
pay an important role in this regard. At the end of the seminar, Mr. Salman
Humayun expressed thanks to all the participants, and hoped that the government
would keep on taking steps for consumer Protection.
