Consumer Rights Commission of Pakistan (CRCP) has appreciated the decision taken by Utility Stores Corporation (USC) to reduce the prices of various consumer items. CRCP termed it a right step to give relief to common man. The USC has reduced the prices of more than 250 items ranging from 1 percent to 17 percent with immediate effect.
CRCP
Secretary General Abrar Hafeez said that consumers would benefit from this
step. However, he raised the concern that Corporation should ensure the availability
and quality of the items for all the consumers throughout Pakistan. He emphasized
that quality of goods should not be compromised at any cost. He added that
USC was established to provide relief to consumers who are highly vulnerable
to the unfair market practices. In this connection, the USC has taken appreciable
steps over the times to offer concessions to the consumers at large. Mentioning
the corrupt practices of the market, he emphasized that there should not be
any shortage of the items whose prices have been reduced.
CRCP Secretary General demanded of the USC that it should widely publicize
the list of items along with their reduced prices through radio, television
and newspapers. This would help the consumers across the country to be fully
aware of the details of the package and benefit from it. He urged the USC
to keep introducing such packages from time to time.
