Consumer Rights Commission of Pakistan (CRCP) is implementing a project on “Promoting Informed Consumer Choices on Energy Efficiency and Labelling in South Asia”, in partnership with India-based Voluntary Organization in Interest of Consumer Education (VOICE), under the South Asia Regional Initiative for Energy (SARI/Energy) program, which is managed by the Winrock International. The grant for this program is made by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The aim of this project is to promote labelled, safe, and energy efficient home appliances through creating environment for informed consumer choices in purchase and use of energy appliances and facilitating the supply side to become more responsive to the consumer needs.

Major activities to be undertaken in the project include: (a) Market survey of 500 retailers of 5 electric products: Fluorescent Lamps, Electric Fans, Ballasts, Refrigerators and Air conditioners in Islamabad and Lahore. This would include (a) collecting information about market presence of various brands, popularity, prices, labelling and availability (b) conducting survey of 100 consumers/users to map the level of their knowledge and preferences; (c) production of information material i.e. brochures and pamphlets (d) exchange visits of one expert to partner country for sharing information and experiences of the progress of the project and (e) collecting data on laboratory testing facilities, test protocols, standards and labels and (f) dissemination of research report and other material to important stakeholders in South Asia.
